Most importantly, Anne and Patrick are wonderful hosts and lovely people. During our week long stay, our family greatly enjoyed getting to know their family including all four children, Sox the Cat and Scruffy the dog (plus the cows and the chickens).
The cottage is darling and impeccably clean: 3 large bedrooms with 3 modern bathrooms (the best showers in Ireland!), a beautiful kitchen with everything you need, lovely family room and patio, plus a washing machine and dryer. Anne may even surprise you with apple tarts with fresh cream!
Great location to explore both Kerry and Cork (you are right off the Ring of Kerry and the Ring of Beara), quick drive into Kenmare, or just chill out in the stunning beauty of the Irish countryside. Our family of 5 (three teenage children) kept pretty busy exploring. All of anne’s recommendations for adventure/dining were spot on! Next trip, we will spend some more time just hanging out at the cottage.
One quick story: we blew out a tire one evening in the Gap of Dunloe. We could have spent half a day finding a repair shop and getting it fixed, but Patrick made one phone call to a friend at a tire shop who met me (at 6:00 in the morning!) and had us road ready by 6:45 a.m. Saved the day!
Thanks to their son, Shane, my son and I have become big fans of hurling. Shane gave us a hurling lesson and helped us buy tickets to a GAA match at Croke Park in Dublin. We highly recommend that you check out Gaelic sports when you’re in Ireland.
We are home now, but can’t wait to go back to Doire Farm!
